As the child grows older we gradually switch the amount invested in stocks and shares to other less risky investments like government and corporate bonds. This lifestyling is designed to protect the value of the investment as the child reaches 18. As with any stock market investment the value can fall and rise and the child could not receive back as much as you have invested. The availability of this lifestyling is a requirement of a stakeholder Child Trust Fund.
