Sam is our Head of Sales and is responsible for ensuring that the Healthy Investments products reach their intended target market. Sam works with intermediaries around the UK and is also the driver of our Introducer Scheme.

Hi Sam, tell us a bit about yourself? How long have you worked for Healthy Investment?

I’m Sam, I have a passion for weightlifting and cars. I’ve worked at Healthy Investment for the past 13 years. I started as an apprentice in the administration team and during that period of time, I discovered that I enjoyed talking about the products with intermediaries more than administering them, therefore I moved into the sales team and I’ve loved it ever since.

How has the industry changed in that time?

Since I started in the industry, there’s been a lot of regulatory intervention to improve customer outcomes. I remember the first big bit of regulation we dealt with here, which was the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) at the end of 2012. Back before RDR we used to pay a commission to advisers for advised sales and RDR changed all this. This is where we developed both our adviser product range (where you can build your adviser fees into the product) and our introducer product range (where you can introduce people to our products in return for a commission).

What do you think will be the main drivers of change over the next 10 years?

I think at the moment the hot topic is AI. With AI becoming more readily available, I believe this will force companies to revert to having a more personalised approach with customers to make sure they stand out from the rest. Which is something that we wholeheartedly agree with at Healthy Investment.

What is your favourite Healthy Investment product, and why?

This is a difficult one! I like the friendly society unique Tax-Exempt Savings Plans because you can tailor them in so many ways to suit your client’s medium to long term investment objectives – i.e. to help pay towards the costs of university fees, to help pay for your child’s mortgage deposit, to help pay towards the costs of a wedding and so on! But if I could pick just one product it would be the Investment Bond, which we are looking to speak to intermediaries including IFA’s, Estate Planners and Introducers about.

What do you like most about your role?

I enjoy building and maintaining relationships with intermediaries, it’s great to build a mutual relationship with other professionals to bounce ideas off and maximise business potential for both the intermediary and Healthy Investment.

What do you like doing outside of work?

I have always had a passion for weightlifting and have been training now for about 12 years. The difficulty these days is recovery; I don’t recover the same as I used to! Aside from that I’m into cars and have enjoyed performance cars over the years, currently taking a break from them though because as we all know, they can be really expensive when they go wrong!
